We don’t usually have fashion pages in our magazine but having highlighted the beauty pageant for Malaysian cockerels, we thought it only fair to include something for the girls!
These brilliant photos of Margaret the hen taking part in a fashion shoot were sent to us by Melanie Trevett, BHWT adopter and fashion journalist.
Melanie said: “Before I moved to the Devon countryside I was working in fashion and living in cities.
“As I write fashion features, I thought it would be fun to do a tongue-in-cheek piece about the old me and the new me, and how I’ve merged the two lifestyles together.
“Margaret was very chilled during the photo shoot, there were no diva moments! She even fell asleep when I was holding her and started purring!”
Margaret is part of Melanie’s flock of four hens alongside Lindsey, Princess Layer and Mother Clucker.
She has always been Melanie’s favourite and since the photos she’s also become something of a celebrity among friends and family.
Melanie added, “She’s so friendly with everyone. I never knew how rewarding hens would be until I got some as pets.
“They’re my therapy. I’m a type A personality, always on-the-go, but when I have a cup of tea and weed the garden with my chickens, Margaret is always nearby and I find myself talking to her.
“She really is my companion and when I talk, she tilts her head to one side as if she’s listening, so there’s definitely something going on there. Hens are far more intelligent than I ever thought.”
