Our Partnerships

As part of our one millionth celebrations it's only right to thank all our corporate friends, the first of whom was The Smallholder Range by Allen & Page. I had only just begun to find my charity feet when my path crossed Tim Page and nearly 20 years on our partnership thrives.

I’m proud to say we use The Smallholder Range; in our view it really is the best thing since sliced bread for our birds. Tim was even kind enough to create a feed specifically for birds in barren cages (now long gone of course) to help them better transition to a free-range retirement through enhanced nutrition. And I remember well how birds needing additional support benefited from what I called my little 'boost balls' of goodness using The Smallholder Range Crumb.

Dengie Fresh Bed of course was a collaboration from the outset; before I started the charity I provided a home for an old dobbin (taken in to stop her going to a premature slaughter) and so I used their wonderful horse bedding. From that I started asking if something similar for chickens would be possible and the kind people at Dengie … they say yes! That, too, hatched a long lasting, warm and fruitful partnership with so many hens benefiting from the cosiest nests they could wish for, especially those from the original barren cages - can you imagine the joy of making that first nest?! I remember the pleasure it gave me to watch a hen laying her first egg in retirement, it makes me tingle even now. From hard floor to soft, fragrant plumpness … wow.

Nettex joined us in 2021 and have been hugely supportive and helpful in that time. Their products work and my hens would complain immediately if I didn't use their Total Hygiene Powder every time I changed their bedding; it’s such an effective and safe way to help keep mites at bay.

And then we met Higgidy … and what wonderful synergy from the start; we loved this company and their values. Not to mention their yummy yumster food, and we were even more thrilled that twice they have created a special quiche for the charity. You can still buy the Garlic Roasted Broccoli & Vintage Cheddar quiche from Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Ocado. Our millionth logo is telling lots more customers about our work, and hopefully that will help even more hens find a home in the future. Thank you Higgidy.

Natures Grub have been friends of the charity for many years and offer the most delicious range of nutritional treats for your hens. Mine love anything that comes from a Natures Grub tub or pack -I swear they know the logo! Giving your hens Natures Grub treats helps us to help more hens … what’s not to like about that?!

Omlet and the BHWT have virtually grown alongside each other and I am so grateful and proud of our association. Together we are changing life for so many chickens, and people of course. Many of our teams use the Omlet walk-in runs, which are robust and movable. We intend working more closely with our friends at Omlet and this will bring even better news for many of our hens.

Our farmer friends It feels right to include all the farmers in this thank you, past and present; they took a leap of faith all those years ago and I’m deeply grateful to them. Yes there have been challenges and yes there have been a few upsetting situations, but the vast majority of experiences have been positive and helpful. It is after all only as a result of their trust in us that we have achieved what we have.
