Dengie Help Us Help Another 15,000 Hens A Year

Help us help another 15,000 hens a year

Never one to rest on our laurels, we are already looking ahead to 2025 and how we can help even more hens in what will be our twentieth year.

To date, one million hens and counting have been given a brighter future thanks to you, our supporters. They were deemed commercially unviable simply because their egg laying slowed down, but we know they have so much more life to give.

Next year, we have ambitious plans to help even more hens, but to do that we need more teams which comes at a cost. Our incredible network of 48 rehoming points reaches so many, but we know there are more areas with people itching to get their hands on hens.

There are hen-shaped holes in several parts of the UK and that doesn’t sit well with us. We want hen rehoming to be an option for everyone, so we are asking our supporters to consider donating so that more hens have hope this Christmas.

Our aim is to establish six new teams which, in turn, could save the lives of an extra 15,000 hens each year. Setting up these brand new teams comes at a cost which we cannot fund alone. There are crates needed to transport hens to their new homes safely, baskets for hens needing a little extra TLC and nail clippers so that they head off to their free-range retirements with a fresh trim.

Moreover, new sites may well need stables if they don’t already have them so that the hens we collect are safe and contained while waiting for their new families to pick them up. A trailer may well need to be purchased too which pushes costs up, meaning the average team needs around £7,500 to get established.
