Can you believe it’s nearing the end of the year already?? It’s been a challenging 12 months for the charity with fewer hens rehomed than ordinarily; Avian Flu has a lot to answer for. On a positive note, we have much to celebrate with the approach of our 900,000th hen and we're on a countdown, and tell me who doesn't love a countdown?!

In this issue of Chicken & Egg we celebrate our hen family, far and wide; we bring you Mrs Hinch, who along with giving all sorts of excellent household cleaning tips, can now advise on hen house cleaning too! We have some heartwarming results from Cambridge University researcher Dr Catherine Oliver PhD, an update on fundraiser Simone Stanbrook-Bryne's 1,000 mile hike for hens, news of a Malaysian beauty contest with a difference and a fashion editor’s fave hen, Margaret.

We have not one but two wonderful winter competition prizes in this edition! One of which will mean long, lazy lie-ins for the lucky winner, courtesy of Omlet, and we also have a treat worth £300 from The Cotswold Company, known for its beautifully timeless furniture and accessories.

We are thrilled to offer our limited-edition Christmas cards from Bob Mortimer and his lovely wife, Lisa, our 2023 BHWT calendar as well as our cute Sophie Allport range. Quick … when they’re gone, they’re gone!

Finally, we have hints and guidance on how to create a must-have winter garden for your feathered friends.
