Why Play The Bhwt Lottery? Hen Health

1,000 miles = completed

In our last issue we chatted to Simone Stanbrook-Byrne who was at the tail end of her colossal challenge to walk 1,000 miles in a year to raise money for us.

Well, we’re delighted to say Simone’s tootsies completed the full 1,000 miles and raised over £200!

Simone told us: “Two days before Christmas, and a few days late, due to the fact that I was struck-down with Covid, I went through the 1,000-mile barrier – 1,000.04 to be exact. The final excursion was a cloud-scudding, late-in-the-day walk from home, soon after the snow, rounded off with a goodnight trip up to Tatty, our historic hen who is currently in her own ‘lockdown’ in the field shelter. A fitting end to 1000 miles.

“The walk raised over £200 from BHWT supporters sponsoring me, and in the current economic climate I am so grateful to all those who supported this. Thank you.”

Spend money to raise money

Not everyone is able to walk 1,000 miles, run marathons or bake cakes so we’ve got an alternative which is as easy as sitting on your sofa to shop, with no additional or hidden cost!

Signing up to the likes of easyfundraising and Give as you Live is a fuss-free way to raise funds for us when doing your everyday shopping online. These digital fundraising platforms offer vital income to us so please bear them in mind next time you buy online – it costs you nothing; it gives us the chance to fund more hen collections.

Leave a legacy

It’s tricky to talk about dying, but a great way to make the topic a little more warm and friendly is by leaving a charitable gift in your Will. Your money could help us do so much – it's a way of forever helping hens. And we are so grateful to those who have already thought about us in their Will, they are helping us plan for a brighter future for our beloved chickens.
