| Dear Supporters | Carriage Fit For A Queen |
Our Good Eggs always bring a smile to our face and the stars of this issue are no different. This time round it’s even more apparent that a new generation of hen lovers are being inspired to support our work – thank you to each and every one of them.
Hazel’s bike ride
Eight-year-old Hazel, who adores her rehomed hens Ginger, Hennypenny and Sunny, took it upon herself to ride a very challenging 32 miles on her bike to raise funds for the charity earlier this year. Despite taking a big tumble at less than halfway, Hazel dusted herself off and finished the ride. It was the longest she’d ever done and took her 3 hours and 55 minutes and she raised £460.
Hazel told us: “I chose to do something challenging to show people how much I care about my hens and so people would support me. When we got to the halfway point I didn't want to keep going because I was so muddy and my knees were sore with cuts on them. I knew that if I didn't finish I would let down the hens.
“When I finished the whole ride I felt really happy for completing it because it was the biggest challenge I'd ever done. Thank you for giving us our wonderful hens. “
Bake sales
Huge thanks also go to Juliet and friends Zoya and Hilary who held a bake sale to raise funds for us back in August, raising £164. Juliet insisted on holding her bake sale the same day as we announced our one millionth hen, and her pet hen Pinky was the main attraction, showing younger children what amazing pets chickens can be. Juliet has even more events planned and has recruited her friends to create pom-poms to sell at her school’s Christmas fayre. Juliet, you are a true hen hero!
On the topic of bake sales, thanks also to Lily-May and Jessica who raised £330 through their event which even included cakes made with eggs laid by their own hens! Amazing stuff.
