| One Million Hens | A Look To The Future |
So how come Henrietta got the accolade of being our one millionth hen AND the chance to reside with royalty?
Naturally it was a very special, and somewhat emotional, moment for me to have the task of selecting a hen fit for her role. Not only in being presented to HM The King but perhaps even more importantly as a fitting representative of all the hens we do not reach before they head to slaughter.
Amongst all the smiles and laughter, there had to be one hen that fitted the bill and Henrietta did just that. She was firstly a simply beautiful bird, she had a vibrant red comb indicating good health and very likely that she would continue to be a good layer. She was placid too and in the melee of 350 birds she calmly and elegantly (one could even perhaps say regally) glided amongst her friends.
When I picked Henrietta up, she barely flustered a feather and I knew she was the girl.
So into her amazing carriage she went with not even a momentary flap. And I was confident she would help to spread the word about our work and her faceless friends far and wide. And as you will see from pages 34 and 35, that’s just what she did.
A single hen to represent the one million rehomed and the millions left behind.
