Sponsor A Hen This Christmas Bhwt

dear supporters

Dear supporters,

The last edition of Chicken & Egg started with a reference to the gorgeous sunshine we enjoyed early in June, but didn’t it all go downhill from there! However, as we know every cloud has a silver lining and the cooler weather made for a bumper rehoming period with almost 46,000 hens rehomed by the end of September. A shout out of gratitude to our amazing life-saving volunteers who stepped up to the mark when we needed them to.

In this edition you will have the chance to win an automatic door for your hen house (oh yes, dare to think long lost lie ins!); you’ll meet the delightful Chrisie and Holly, two lifelong friends from America podcasting all things poultry across the globe and you’ll read about our BIG milestone that is now well and truly on the horizon … page 8 for that piece of news!

I’d like to introduce you to two young ladies on opposite sides of the globe : Madelaine Wortley in Newark, UK and Anna Phelan in Victoria, Australia – they represent so well the caring youth of today who we hope will become the keepers of hen welfare tomorrow; renowned author Sally Coulthard talks about her latest poultry book (we’ve a copy to be won in our Golden Egg competition too) and on your marks, get set, get shopping because our new cards and calendars have launched!

On a more serious note, we explain the impact of the new post-EU trade deal and where that leaves hen welfare, but we lighten our spirits with the usual picture round of happy hens doing what they enjoy most in their retirement.

I hope you find this edition of Chicken & Egg our usual mix of feathery fun and informative; enjoy.

And finally, just a note to please let us know if you’re reading this in hard copy and would prefer a digital version instead. Email [email protected] to tell us your preference.
