Monkeys Who Masquerade As Hens

dear supporters

Wow, what a start to our summer with glorious endless sunshine, lovely for most of us although not so great for gardeners perhaps. And it’s not great for our hens if they’ve got uninvited red mite guests in their coops; we’ve got the low down on how to manage an outbreak and keep your hens happy.

As you’ll see our front cover is graced by the lovely Ben Fogle and you can read a bit about what makes Ben tick on page 25. But the really big news in this issue is the long-awaited launch of our Poultry Vet Guide, the culmination of 5 years’ work with vets both sides of the pond. We now need a bit of your help to get the message out to vets everywhere that there is more support for them when a feathery client lands in their practice. Please hand this copy to your vet, once you’ve enjoyed it of course!

Our Van Appeal launches, and we’re so hoping you’ll be as kind as you always are in helping us to help more hens. Find out on pages 18-19 what you’ve already achieved and how you can save more lives.

You’ll see, too, an interesting piece about our collaboration with A-Law, a charity focussed on animal advocacy; A-Law are proving a valuable asset to our work to reclassify pet chickens so we can offer more health treatment options currently unavailable to them.

We’ve some super stats on our lottery winners so far, a story about hens who spend their lives hanging around train stations (yes, really) and our usual round of news about good eggs, yummy recipes and happy hens.

Thank you for giving your hens the chance to enjoy the summer, and I hope you enjoy this edition of Chicken & Egg.

And finally, just a note to please let us know if you’re reading this in hard copy and would prefer a digital version instead. Email [email protected] to tell us your preference.
