After what felt like a seriously long winter, spring sprung, and with it, thousands of hens winged their way to new loving pet homes. At the time of writing some 14,159 hens have been rehomed thanks to the dedication and compassion of our volunteer network.
We’re also delighted to report that, after your fabulous fundraising for our Christmas Appeal in 2024, which aimed to raise enough to support four rehoming teams, plans are in full swing for them all. New sites are now up and running in Symington and Girvan in Scotland with Ilford near London following shortly. Finally, we are soon to be erecting a brand-new stable for our long-running Essex site, which is in desperate need of a glow-up. The new facility allows our team there to hold hens safely and securely, while providing a much better experience for volunteers and rehomers alike. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this happen, and for your patience while we put your funds to good use. As always, you can trust us to use every penny to the benefit of hens and to be honest when there’s been a slight delay.
Finally, we give a nod to our sister charity, Champs Libres aux Poules, in France, which recently rehomed 57 male turkeys who would have been destined for the dinner table if not for a sexing error. The charity was given endorsement by Reha Hutin, Head of the 30 Million Friends Foundation – a well-respected charitable organisation in France, and a huge honour.
