Spring feels like a fresh start for us all and here at the BHWT we love new beginnings. Seeing hens emerge as their new, natural selves when their retirements begin gives us joy, and we can give that gift thanks to our supporters, including those who have so kindly chosen to remember us in their Wills.
Our legacy pledgers have a deep-rooted belief in our ability to make change for hens and in a measured, positive way for the benefit of everyone invested in hen welfare.
For Nick Barnwell, the idea of leaving a gift in his Will felt like a natural decision. “I have long admired the work the BHWT does — not only rescuing hens but giving them a second chance at a life they deserve,” he continued. “Knowing that my legacy might help continue that work brings me real comfort.
“The BHWT represents compassion in action. It is an organisation that quietly but powerfully improves animal welfare, and that means a great deal to me personally.
“I hope my legacy will help ensure future generations of hens are cared for, protected, and valued.”
It was the hens themselves who inspired Liz and Beau Cruwys to remember the BHWT in their Wills, saying they wanted to return the gift of joy, contentment and fulfilment by contributing to the happiness and wellbeing of as many hens as they could.
“We felt the best way to do this was to support the British Hen Welfare Trust, which does such marvellous work in giving hens new homes, where they can lead healthy, safe, and happy lives,” they added. “We so respect and admire the work that the staff and all of the many wonderful volunteers of the BHWT carry out, that we want it to be able to continue in perpetuity. We hope the legacy we leave to the BHWT helps them continue and expand on their work in order to keep saving beautiful hens who will contribute to the lives of other people, as they have ours.”
Thank you to Nick, Liz and Beau for their dedication to hens everywhere. Without them, and all our legacy pledgers past and present, our future would be a little less bright.
