The dark nights may be upon us, but we have lots of bright and cheery news for our lovely readers, with just one very serious campaign in the mix, a topic I hope you will want to learn about.

For years, I have wanted to shine a light on the quail industry; after all there are commercial laying quail hens in their millions here in the UK, and in their billions around the world. With your help, we have made a huge difference to the welfare of laying hens and now, for a brief time, we turn our attention to quail. Their lives are in our hands and we aim to gently tug your heartstrings and request you join our positive campaign to highlight their plight this Christmas.

Whilst talking about other ‘cousins’ of our beloved chickens, you will I hope love reading about the latest birds rescued from slaughter by our French friends at Champs Libres aux Poules; let me tell you - it is heartwarming.

It’s well over a year since Henrietta was crowned a royal hen so we take a little peek at what she and our Royal feathery friends are up to. We bring you all the great and Good Eggs who have literally in some cases gone to the top and the bottom of the country to help our hens. And please support our two marathon runners who are already gearing up for the big one next year.

As always we share lots of happy hen stories, some gorgeous pics and offer a fab set of books written by our newest Patron, Professor Ben Garrod. All you have to do is find the golden egg!
