Our very own featherweight
When supporter Marie Wilson got in touch to say she’d accidentally signed up for a boxing match, we were mildly concerned for her safety! But she took it all in her stride and, after being assigned to the very appropriate category of featherweight, Marie completed the challenge and raised £849 in the process.
She told us: “Having never boxed before, I was way out of my comfort zone and at 59 was the oldest of the 70 participants. The organisers had to bring someone in to fight me that had already trained and boxed before. She was also 15 years my junior. All that said, I did win my fight and have retired undefeated!”
LEJOG for hens
New BHWT Trustee and all-round good egg Sharon Eversfield first heard about the charity in 2006 after adopting two hens, and we’re so glad she did. She went on to become a volunteer for us in Cheshire and most recently became a Trustee helping to shape the future development of the charity.
Oh, and then there’s the small fact that she’s just cycled 1,027 miles from Land's End to John O’Groats, having only picked up her first road bike in April! At the time of writing she’s raised more than £1,000 to help our feathered friends, as if she hadn’t already helped enough of them. Thank you, Sharon.
Spreading our wings
Getting the word out about what brilliant pets hens make is naturally a key objective of ours, but we can’t do it alone! That’s why we’re so thankful to those who attend events on our behalf, like our Wrexham team who did a wonderful job in helping to spread the word about our work at the Eisteddfod in August. The festival was a celebration of the Welsh culture and language. We now have event packs ready and waiting for anyone wishing to represent us, be it at your local village fete or something bigger. Simply email [email protected] and one of our lovely Fundraising Team will get back to you in a jiffy.
