Seeing hens in the mainstream media brings us a great sense of satisfaction because it helps spread the word that these creatures are entirely worthy of a spot in our back gardens, and our hearts. The past few months have included some prominent PR which we hope will have encouraged a few people to rehome from us.
October 2024 – Take a Break
We were delighted to see our wonderful long-serving volunteer Lizzie included in this piece featuring a photo from her wedding day when her hens were ring bearers! Lizzie is also an education volunteer for us, regularly holding workshops to educate our next generation of hen keepers. A hen hero in all senses.
November 2024 – Modern Gardens
This was a small piece albeit it with a huge potential audience of new hen keepers. Many people avoid hens for fear of ruining their garden, but a few simple steps is all it takes to keep your petunias perfect.
January 2025 – BBC News: How to look after cats and dogs in cold weather
How to look after cats and dogs was the title, yet our beloved hens got a lovely mention alongside. Well, they are the fourth most popular pet in the UK, you know...and rising!
January 2025 – Waitrose Weekend
A simple snippet is often all it takes to get word out that hens make great pets. This piece in Waitrose Weekend was all about taking steps to become more self-sufficient.
February 2025 – Sarah Beeny’s New Life in the Country
When we lost one of our Somerset sites Sarah and her family stepped in to hold a rehoming for us and filmed the process for her new show, which you can watch on Channel 4OD.
