Hen Helpline – supporting you, saving lives

Our Hen Helpline has been a vital service for all hen keepers in the UK, taking around 200 calls a month from those with a hen in need. Whether you have adopted hens from the BHWT or elsewhere, we’ve been here to help.

We’re not vets but have a team of experienced hen keepers including three Registered Animal Medicines Advisors on hand to deal with anything from health issues to behavioural queries like bullying and merging.

Now, we’re evolving our service to make it more sustainable, and so we can continue supporting you and your hens long into the future. To do this, from April, we are introducing a small charge of £5 per consultation which will subsidise 50% of our costs.

Access to the Hen Helpline will remain free for anyone who has adopted hens in the four weeks prior, so they can be confident we are there to support them with any settling in questions they may have.

Our new Hen Helpline page will contain clear instructions with a simple form to fill in and following this, a member of the advice team will either call or email as soon as possible to offer advice.

Of course, as with any change, there will be a bedding in period during which we will respond to any feedback so please, feel free to contact us with any comments.

Thank you for continuing to support our Hen Helpline. You benefit not just your own hens but help us to rehome our next millionth hen faster.

And what could be better than that?!
