A Finnish biotech company has raised EUR 10 million to commercialise pioneering technology that can produce egg white without a hen … yes, really.

Onego Bio has developed bioalbumen, an animal-free protein using a precision fermentation process (a little bit like fermenting beer).

The process involves the development of a safe, sustainable and cost-effective cellular agriculture method to produce ovalbumin, the most abundant egg white protein.
