Walk 1,000 mile over the course of a year – easy, huh? It may sound it, but try averaging three miles a day, every single day, come rain, shine or multiple heatwaves – not quite so easy, right?
BHWT supporter Simone Stanbrook-Byrne set herself this not-so-easy-peasy challenge at the start of 2022, with the aim of completing 1,000 miles by the end of the year.
She’s already up to 800 miles with two months to go, despite battling some pretty gruelling heat during the summer.
Simone told us: “I still tried to walk every day during the heatwave, but often shorter distances late in the day, making up the miles on cooler days.
“When I started this, I thought 1,000 miles in a year was going to be easy, it is, after all, just under three miles a day. But that takes 45 minutes to an hour, and on busy days it’s been a challenge to find the time. The fact that people are sponsoring me is spurring me on…. I can’t stop now!” To support Simone's efforts visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/simonestanbrook-byrne
