| Flying The British Egg Flag | Meet Monique! |
When her dear friend and passionate hen lover and free range egg producer, Lesley, sadly passed away last year, artist Shelley Marsden wanted to do something to remember her by.
Lesley kept hens all her life running a free-range egg farm (10,000 hens) and the hens’ welfare was at the core of her business as well as her heart. Lesley had a special hospital area to care for those hens that needed additional support; Lesley’s motto being ‘where there’s life there’s hope’.
So Shelley designed two beautiful Christmas cards, a robin for remembrance, and a hare, which Lesley loved to see on her farmland, selling them in a local shop with all proceeds coming to the BHWT. She raised a wonderful £128, money which will be put to good use helping more hens in Lesley’s memory.
And just as importantly, Shelley says the process has helped her come to terms with the loss of her friend by working to support a cause close to her heart.
