Fowl Play Chicken Chat

Our Mother Hen in the UK inspires the next generation in Australia

A few months ago, a lovely email dropped into our inboxes all the way from Melbourne in Australia!

It was from Lisa Phelan who told us all about her daughter Anna, who adores chickens and just so happened to find inspiration from our very own Mother Hen.

Anna, who dreams of changing the lives of hens in Australia (where it was recently agreed not to phase out battery cages until 2036), recently completed a project at school and chose our founder Jane as her hero and inspiration.

She also took it upon herself to complete our six-week poultry course, despite only being 13 years old, and her mum tells us she would like to become a poultry vet and hen rehomer! Needless to say we will be supporting Anna to achieve her dream however possible.

Tesco and Aldi attend Eco Fair

Volunteers from our Kineton rehoming point in Warwickshire recently attended an Eco Fair in Napton along with two adopted hens to promote the charity’s work.

Sally, Poppy and Howie Hilton took their hens Tesco and Aldi (great names!) and set up a stall with BHWT information and merchandise, saying there was lots of interest in our work.

The event was opened by Countryfile host Tom Heap, who we hope to hear from soon when he decides to adopt his own little flock!
