But there’s another layer to the relationship. These former commercial hens are, in a sense, in recovery too. Patients can watch them gradually get their lives back – day by day, feather by feather, comb by comb. World-weary souls becoming curious and confident again, with the simple application of time and patience. “That link between the physical recovery of the hens, and our people’s own recovery, really is a joy to experience,” says Chris. “That tangible sense of rehabilitation, of nurturing back to health. It’s really quite special”.
