Going the extra mile

Our volunteers are the precious components that make our well-oiled machine turn and save the lives of thousands of hens each year.

Michelle Ward has been a volunteer for the charity since 2008 and used to be our Cornwall coordinator. She introduced her lovely daughter, Ellie, to the joys of helping hens and Ellie in turn has introduced her son, Rex and the three of them are regularly now making a difference to the lives of hundreds of hens.

Along the way Michelle has contended cancer and popped out the other side with a smile on her face and a hen in her arms; she’s also moved up to Lincolnshire where she immediately joined the Collyweston team. And most recently as she approaches a big birthday Michelle was given, as a surprise, the above number plate to adorn the van that she hopes to use to help more of our hens.

When I saw the pics above, I felt tingles from top to toe as I am reminded just how dedicated the wonderful people we work with are, and this little snippet is to give me an opportunity to thank you especially Michelle, but Ellie & Rex too for the contribution you all make to this charity. Get those wheels rollin’ and those hens rehomin’!

I cannot thank enough – ever – each volunteer and supporter for what they contribute to the charity. Sometimes it is overwhelming for me and uplifting beyond measure. Thank you.
