GOOD EGGS

A man of iron and a singing chicken... two supporters go above and beyond to raise funds for the BHWT!

Like a lot of us, Sam Sinclair turned to exercise to escape the boredom of living under lockdown and was soon spending his days running and swimming.

But Sam decided to take his fitness regime to another level and signed up to do the Outlaw Triathlon on July 4.

As Sam, from Essex, says, “During lockdown I started doing a few runs around the block and swimming in my local lake. I was encouraged to try challenging events and I chose the half Ironman.

“It involves a 1.2-mile swim in either sea or lake, a 56-mile bike ride and a 13-mile run.”

Like the good egg that he is, Sam decided to use the event to raise funds for the BHWT, after visiting a friend and seeing his adopted ex-caged hens, who were looking sorry for themselves. The conversation between Sam and his friend turned to the work of the BHWT and the importance of consumer choices within the egg industry.

Before he knew it, Sam had signed up for a BHWT rehoming day, taken up vegetarianism and decided to use his half Ironman to raise vital funds for us.

Thank you for your efforts Sam – time to put your feet up and have a well-earned rest!

Sam has raised £550 so far, but you can still support him by visiting: justgiving.com/fundraising/Sam-Sinclair29

Kayt and her fiancé, from Hampshire, first became involved with the BHWT after seeing us on Countryfile and adopting three hens. After adding to their flock during lockdown, they now have eight feathered friends sharing their garden.

But their efforts to help hens haven’t stopped at giving hens a home and lately, things have taken a more musical turn…

Kayt is a self-employed singer and performs on Twitch, an online streaming service, where she has built a community of supporters who enjoy listening to her music. She decided to harness the power of her listeners and dressed as a chicken, of course, she held an online fundraising concert where she sang for four hours.

The concert included renditions of Old Macdonald and They’re Taking The Chickens To Isengard, and a guest appearance from Bibi, one of her hens.

Kayt raised a fantastic £1,555.51

Kayt says, “I had to do it! The idea that I could spread the message around the world and raise money at the same time – it was a no brainer.”

We’d like to say a massive thank you to Kayt and her online community, known as ‘The Nerdy Tavern’. If you’d like to see Kayt sing you can find her fundraiser on YouTube, just search for Nerdy Singer Kayt "Cluck for Coin."
